The farm, Dassieklip, was originally a grain and sheep farm and in 2002 the Droogerivier Dohnes stud was established, soon followed by the registration of the Droogerivier Brangus stud in 2008.
After completing his studies in 2005, Jan-Hendrik Joubert,Jr. returned to the family farm. Soon after his arrival he recognised the farm’s infinite potential for the cultivation of olives and wine grapes. Contributing factors to this conclusion was the farm’s close proximity to the ocean, the limestone-rich soil and the ideal climate – and it became the final motivation for the development and expansion of the farm.
Jan-Hendrik, Jr. and his father, Fanie, planted the first olive groves in 2008. In 2009 the first blocks of Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Tempranillo was planted, followed by Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc in 2010. This is when Baleia Wines were born.
